4 Things You Didn't Know About Jimmy Buffett
Jimmy Buffett isn't just an international music icon - he's an inspiration for millions of people for how to kickback, relax and enjoy yourself. Parrotheads from all over flock to Buffett's concerts for their epic tailgates and excellent shows on stage. However, even if you have every Jimmy Buffett album and have experienced dozens of shows, there still may be a few things you don't know about this Parrothead patriarch. Check out these four Buffett facts.
1. Jimmy Buffett Likes Writing
Buffett didn't start writing lyrics, he started with journalism. After graduating college, Buffett actually worked as a journalist for a short time, getting a job at Billboard magazine before releasing his first record in 1970. Since then, Buffett has written five best-selling books and has accomplished the rare feat of having both non-fiction and fiction books as best-sellers. Buffett has even written a book for children.
2. He Lives the Life He Sings About
His stage persona isn't just an act. Jimmy Buffett embraces and lives the Parrothead lifestyle. The aspect of his life that exemplifies the Parrothead lifestyle is how much time he spends on his sailboat, Euphoria II. Sailing, sleeping or relaxing, Buffett's boat can take him to whatever tropical locales he wants.
3. Buffett is an Activist
It's pretty obvious that Jimmy Buffett likes tropical locations, and he's doing his part to help them stay as beautiful as they are. Buffett is an environmental and animal activist who helps preserve areas and animals in Florida.
4. He May Have Been Part of the Biggest Margarita Ever, But He Likes Simpler Drinks
In 2001, Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville restaurant in Orlando, Florida created the largest mixed drink ever with a margarita of more than 7,030 gallons. While smaller versions of this beloved cocktail are common among Parrotheads, Buffett actually likes making himself more basic drinks.
Buffett said in a Men's Journal interview that he likes mixing dark rum with coconut water and limes. You can make this cocktail at home with a frozen twist in your margarita maker. Here's what you'll need:
- 6 ounces coconut water
- 3 ounces dark rum
- 1 splash lime juice
- Lime wedge
- Ice
- Your frozen concoction maker.
Fill up your ice reservoir and mix the rum, coconut water and lime juice in your blender jar. Then, just flip the switch and watch your machine do the rest. Add the lime as a garnish and you'll be drinking like Jimmy Buffett in no time.
Your fellow Parrotheads at Margaritaville® Cargo remind you to enjoy your frozen concoctions responsibly and obey all drinking laws.
