3 of tropical drinks you can tweak for a holiday concoction
Just because it's the holidays doesn't mean that you have to forget all about your favorite tropical drinks. Whether it's 82 degrees outside or 25, you can always feel free to enjoy a relaxing margarita or daiquiri straight from your Frozen Concoction Maker®. But rather than sticking to the classics, why not try some seasonal variations on some of the best tropical drinks around.
1. Christmas Cranberry Margarita
Trade in the traditional lime for a very cranberry option that's as red as Santa's suit. While your classic margarita is a mix of gold tequila, orange juice, triple sec, lime juice and margarita mix, the Christmas version is a little different.
Mix 1/2 cup frozen cranberries, 5 ounces of tequila, 3 tablespoons lime juice, 1 ounce triple sec, 2 ounces of cranberry juice, a splash of orange juice and 2 tablespoons sweetening syrup in your party machine's glass jar. Fill up the ice reservoir and blend away. Trade out your normal salt rims for sugar, and add skewered cranberries and a lime wedge for festive red and green garnishes.
2. Mint Piña Colada
This holiday colada still uses the pineapple and coconut that makes the piña colada a tropical staple, but adds a sweet and tasty mint twist for the season. Mix 5 ounces of white rum, 10 ounces of pineapple juice, 5 ounces of cream of coconut, 1 ounce of lime juice and 1 teaspoon mint syrup. Blend these in your party machine with ice. Pour into glasses and add fresh mint and sugar. This drink is a mashup of a mojito and a piña colada, but the true holiday flair comes with the addition of the candy cane stirrer.
3. The Nor'easter
The Hurricane is a classic cocktail named after Atlantic Coast summer storms, so why not give is a winter update with it's colder relative: the nor'easter? The tropical drink is made with 2 1/4 ounces of light rum, 2 1/4 ounces of dark rum, 2 1/4 ounces of grenadine, 3 ounces of orange juice, 3 ounces of pineapple juice and 151 floating on top. While it's normally served deliciously frozen, consider warming this drink up for a Hot Toddy-like treat. Feel free to switch out the O.J. for some apple cider to give it a truly seasonal taste!
