Many Parrotheads take time away from their jobs each summer to find their own personal tropical getaways. Whether you're getting ready for a week or two of sipping margaritas on a Key West beach or traveling abroad to explore a far off paradise, there are a few things you should know before you pack your suitcase. Keep these summer travel tips in mind.

Start planning as early as possible
No matter what you're planning, it's always a good idea to start earlier rather than later, but with travel it can help save you money. When it comes to booking flights, cars, boats and lodgings, getting a jump on it by a few weeks or months can end up saving you a few hundred extra dollars.

If you have frequent flyer miles or credit card points that you can use for flights or hotels, planning early may be the only way to guarantee yourself a seat or room. You may even save enough to get an upgrade closer to your arrival date.

Do some research and find a tropical paradise you want to visit. Do some research and find a tropical paradise you want to visit.

Planning early also lets you start prepaying for your vacation, so that while you're in your tropical locale, you don't have to be worrying about money. Instead, you can just kick back, drink up and relax.

Make your trip easier with apps
Whether you're a technophile or luddite, apps for your smartphone or tablet can make vacationing a breeze. There are apps that can help you find the most authentic regional cooking, the best happy hour bars and fun events that you can do with a group. Also think about finding apps that will help you navigate the area, such as getting you rides to and from the bar.

Consider bringing a few bar supply items
Depending on where you're going and how you're getting there, you may want to bring some bar supplies. If you're driving to a hotel with some fellow Parrotheads, feel free to pack up your margarita machine in its travel bag and throw it in your car for hotel room cocktails later that week.

Involve your friends
Make sure you bring a few friends along with you. Not only can bringing extra people help cut down on the price of renting a beach house or bungalow, but it guarantees the party won't stop. Invite as many people as you can think of and share your relaxing experience with them.
